Living in Long Biên
Long Biên is the part of urban Hanoi on the east bank of the Red River, joined to the Old Quarter side by the historic Long Biên Bridge and several newer road bridges. It is far less densely built than the inner city and has large malls, hospitals and schools of its own.
Long Biên feels roomier than the inner districts: in 2019 it had around 5,400 people per square kilometre, against more than 42,000 in Đống Đa. Everyday life is organised around large developments such as Vinhomes Riverside, where the British International School Hanoi and Vincom Plaza Long Biên are located, and around AEON Mall on Cổ Linh Road.
The area is also a working hub: Vietnam Airlines, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and Vingroup have their headquarters here, alongside Gia Lâm Airport, Gia Lâm railway station and Gia Lâm bus station.
Landmarks
- Long Biên Bridge (Cầu Long Biên): A 2.4 km steel bridge from 1899–1902, now for trains, motorbikes, bicycles and pedestrians.
- AEON Mall Long Biên: Hanoi's first Japanese-style mall, opened 28 October 2015, with around 150 stores and a CGV cinema.
- Vincom Plaza Long Biên: Neighbourhood mall inside Vinhomes Riverside with a WinMart supermarket and CGV cinema.

Getting around
