Lạc Long Quân: the school run street, and a market that trades six days a lunar month

A working street, not a lakeside one

Lạc Long Quân is the longest street in this set and the least romantic, and for one kind of renter it is the obvious answer.

Why families with school-age children end up on this road

If you have children at an international school in the north-west of the city, this road is the corridor. Measured from the street: the United Nations International School of Hanoi is about 590 metres away at G9 Ciputra, Westlink International School is roughly 690 and 710 metres for its primary and lower secondary campuses, Hanoi Academy is about 980 metres and Singapore International School about 1.1 kilometres. GP Academy kindergarten is 380 metres. No other street on this list is close to that cluster. Note that UNIS is entered from Võ Nguyên Giáp and Nguyễn Hoàng Tôn, so check the actual gate you would use.

Chợ Bưởi: the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 29th

The street’s second distinction is much older. Chợ Bưởi trades as a periodic market on the 4th, 9th, 14th, 19th, 24th and 29th of each lunar month, six sessions a month, at the junction of Lạc Long Quân, Hoàng Hoa Thám and Thụy Khuê. It is one of the oldest markets in Hanoi still running on the old cycle. People come for ornamental plants, ornamental fish, birds, chickens, pigeons, dogs and cats, farm tools and craftware. The 4th and 9th are the busiest. If you live near the junction, plan those mornings.

Chùa Vạn Niên and what is left of Kẻ Bưởi

The area is Kẻ Bưởi, the old paper-making villages. Chùa Vạn Niên and Đình An Thái are both within thirty-five metres of the road. The rest of the frontage is unapologetically practical: FujiMart, Intimex, WinMart, KFC, Lotteria, MediaMart, FPT Shop and a solid run of banks. Vườn hoa Lạc Long Quân gives you a small park.

Who it suits

Rent here if the school run decides your life, or if you want the amenity of a real Hanoi high street rather than an expat strip. Do not rent here expecting to walk to the lake.

Upgrades around West Lake, 2026 to 2030

Hanoi has approved an upgrade programme for the Tây Hồ ward, which covers the West Lake area. Fifty projects are listed for 2026 to 2030, across more than 96 hectares, and 46 of them are publicly funded. They range from roads and schools to parks and improvements to the lake environment. The largest single project is the new Tứ Liên Bridge. Several lakeside streets are named, including Đặng Thai Mai.

The 2026 to 2030 window applies to the programme as a whole. Timings for individual projects are not published, so no one can honestly say which month a given street will be finished, and we will not guess.
