Sơn Trà is the part of Da Nang between the Hàn River and the sea, with Sơn Trà Mountain covering a large part of it. Its seafront includes Mỹ Khê, the city's best-known beach.

Life here faces the sea. Mỹ Khê runs along the eastern shore, and in 2023 Tripadvisor's readers voted it one of the ten best beaches in Asia.

In the evenings the Sơn Trà night market, on Lý Nam Đế, Mai Hắc Đế and Phùng Khắc Khoan streets at the eastern end of the Dragon Bridge, runs from 6 pm until midnight, with its streets closed to traffic.

Landmarks

• Linh Ứng Pagoda and the Lady Buddha: On the Sơn Trà peninsula, about 10 km from downtown; the 67-metre statue is the tallest standing Buddha in Vietnam.
• Mỹ Khê beach: The city beach, about 6 km east of the centre, ranked among the best in Asia by Tripadvisor readers in 2023.
• Dragon Bridge (Cầu Rồng): A 666-metre bridge across the Hàn River, opened on 29 March 2013, which breathes fire and water at 9 pm every Saturday and Sunday night.
• Sơn Trà nature reserve: The forested mountain at the north of the peninsula, home of the red-shanked doucs.

Shops, health and schools

• Shopping: Vincom Plaza at 910A Ngô Quyền, beside the river, has an international food court on its fourth floor.
• Supermarkets: Lotte Mart, across the river at 6 Nại Nam, has a large supermarket on its third floor and is open from 8 am to 10 pm.
• Healthcare: The international clinics are across the river: Family Medical Practice at 96-98 Nguyễn Văn Linh, with a 24-hour emergency line, and Vinmec Da Nang International Hospital on 30 Tháng 4 street, with a 24-hour emergency service.

Getting around

• The Dragon Bridge gives the shortest road from the airport to the eastern beaches. The Hàn River Bridge and Thuận Phước Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in Vietnam, also cross to the city centre.

• The wet and typhoon season runs from September to December, with the heaviest rain from September to November; the dry season runs from January to August.
