Xóm Chùa: a five-metre pagoda lane running down to Đầm Trị

Three hundred metres, five metres wide

Xóm Chùa is a lane, not a street, and that is the appeal. It runs about three hundred metres from the junction with Quảng Khánh, near the gate of Hoằng Ân Pagoda, into the villa and garden area beside Đầm Trị lake. It is roughly five metres wide. Local descriptions dwell on the old house gates, the classical brick walls and the sunsets, and the description is fair.

Two things follow from five metres. Cars are difficult and a listing here will usually mean a walk from where you park. And it is genuinely quiet in a way no through road in Tây Hồ is.

The upgrade programme, and why this lane is next

Xóm Chùa itself is not named in Hanoi’s 2026 to 2030 upgrade list for the Tây Hồ ward. Quảng Khánh, the street it runs off, is: the list includes a new route planned from alley 50 Đặng Thai Mai through to Quảng Khánh. No timing for any of that has been published.

We asked our team in Hanoi when the works will be finished. The answer, in August 2026, was that it is impossible to say with confidence. That is not us dodging the question. It is the most reliable answer there is, from somebody who lives in Hanoi and knows these streets, and it means that anyone who hands you a firm completion date is guessing. So the question worth asking is not when the works end. It is what is happening outside the address you are considering, and that is a question we can answer.

The published list is not the whole story here, and the rest of it is the most useful thing we know about this lane. Our team in Hanoi told us in August 2026 that the work on Đặng Thai Mai has started and is nearly finished, and that the next two areas due to be tackled are Quảng Khánh and Xóm Chùa. So works are expected on this lane itself, not only on the street it runs off.
